About the Limehouse Jazzband

Limehouse am 06.11.2016 in der Philemonkirche

For us, jazz is one of the most vital expressions of feelings - of joie de vivre, desperation, protest, infatuation, confidence ... This is what we identify with. At this level, we communicate with our audience.

And this is how our audience sees us: not as purists or ambitious and colourless perfectionists, but as lively jazzmen who play with enjoyment and humour in different styles - from New Orleans, swing, mainstream to the Dixieland of the 60s.

We play numbers by King Oliver and Louis Armstrong, by Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, by Herbie Hancock, W.C. Handy and Chris Barber amongst others.

Our singer and entertainer Malcolm Mowlam deserves special mention. With voice (it's British), humour (it's very British) and charm (it's "oh, yeah!"), he always finds direct contact to the audience.

The fact that the spark usually leaps onto the audience very quickly is because we "swing" with body and soul and look forward to every performance.
